Minecraft Movie

The ever popular open world game, Minecraft, is going to be turned into a motion picture by Roy Lee, the producer of the recent box office hit, The Lego Movie. Warner Bros. has been in talks with the games creator, Markus Persson, and the Swedish company who developed the game, Mojang, to acquire the rights to produce a movie.

Minecraft is insanely popular at the moment. Available on multiple platforms, it has just passed over 100 million users, making it one of the top five open world games in the world. Minecraft is basically Lego for adults. You can create any environment you dream up, with the virtual blocks available. I have seen everything from a Beetle Juice rollercoaster, to a replica of Hogwarts. I’ve had my fair share of projects too, creating a replica of Carl’s house from the Disney Pixar movie, Up – balloons and all. The world is your oyster.

This announcement couldn’t have come at a better time. The Lego Movie has just grossed a massive $280.5 million in its third week on the big screens, so people are going to be anticipating another huge hit from its creators. I’ve got to say, I am a little concerned though. Games to movie projects haven’t got the best track record. Resident Evil, Prince of Persia, Dead or Alive – all pretty good games, all pretty terrible movies.
