Geek Picks of the Week

Stranger Things T-Shirt | With just over 10 days to go until I can binge through Season 2 of Stranger Things, I’m currently in the process of mentally preparing myself for what I can only imagine will be some fucked up shit, that will no doubt blow my mind. I’m also physically preparing myself by eating ALL the eggos, and now I’ve found the perfect T-Shirt to wear whilst doing so. This Raglan is AMAZING. It features everything Stranger Things in tiny icon form. A bicycle, D20, X-Men Comic, and fairy lights are just a few of the things that stand out on this shirt. So cute. It’s like you’re getting a constant season 1 recap. I can’t wait to see what icons are used for the S2 shirt. Please make one. (Truffle Shuffle)

100 Movie Scratch Poster | If I was going to be honest, I’d say I spend about 60% of my life sleeping and 30% watching movies or TV shows. The other 10% should probably go on work, but I mean – 10 is being pretty optimistic. With that in mind, you’d be excused for thinking I’m a bit of a movie connoisseur, but that’s far from reality because I never seem to get over 50 on those ‘top 100 movies of all time’ lists, which drives me crazy. It’s genuinely my life goal to get 100 on one of those damn things, and this movie scratch map is going to help me do it. It looks awesome, and there are incentives – sort of. You get a colourful poster at the end of it. (Firebox)

Jane Eyre Bookmarks | Since it’s the 170 year anniversary of Jane Eyre today – if my math is correct, which it rarely is, but fingers crossed – I felt like one of my geeky picks had to be Charlotte Bronte related. Her book is one of my favourites, and always makes me feel like a literary goddess whenever I read it because it’s so damn old and yet I totally understand it – well, most of it. Anyway, these bookmarks, depicting little animated versions of Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester, are adorable and now I don’t think I could ever read the novel again without one of them to hold my place. It’s like having company while you read, but not, because they don’t distract you until you lose where you are so that you end up reading the same line over and over again and want to stab yourself in the eye. (Etsy)

Totoro Slippers | I have never said this to anyone before, but I’m really not that fussed about My Neighbour Totoro – please don’t stab me in the eye. I know I joked about it earlier, but  I really like my eyes.  Ghibli is basically worshipped by all anime fans, but I’ve never really understood the whole anime thing. I guess I just haven’t seen enough to make a proper judgement – though I did watch this weird show called Space Dandy a couple of months ago, and if I needed my faith to be restored in anything, that would have done it because it was mental and colourful and, did I mention mental. But yeah, Totoro – I don’t get you, but you sure are cute, and I love slippers, and I also love the idea of putting my feet into your belly. (Firebox)

10 Gifts Every Deadpool Fan Needs in their Life

With Deadpool filming confirmed to be well on it’s way – thanks to Ryan Reynolds who tweeted a picture of the mercenary sun bathing outside the X-mansion earlier in the week – everyone is understandably getting excited about the sequel. I thought I’d share a few of my Deadpool must haves for the fan who can’t get enough of the Merc with the mouth.

1. Deadpool Piggy Bank – I am the worst at saving, like seriously – the complete worst, so I have absolutely no need for any money box ever, but if you need to store your pennies somewhere, why not in Deadpool – I’m certain he’d appreciate the extra cash. He is a mercenary after all.

2.  Deadpool Colouring Book – Adult colouring books are all the rage at the moment and you can’t get more adult than Deadpool. I personally own way more than any child should probably have, let alone adult, but this is a Deadpool colouring book man, its a must.

3. Deadpool Dress – Deadpool is no stranger to cross dressing, so I could totally see him rocking this little red number. It’s not the most conventional outfit, but it looks stretchy enough for back flips and copious amounts of stabbing, if you feel so inclined.

4. Deadpool Comic Poster – There are a ridiculous amount of posters out there in the online abyss, but this one is hands down my favourite. I just love the contrast between the black & white comic book background, and a red Deadpool standing cross armed in front.

5. Deadpool Bookends – I can’t say I’ve ever owned bookends because I’m a serial bookcase owner, but if I were going to own bookends, these would be a serious contender. Made of wood, I love the simplicity, and boldness.

6. Deadpool Leggings – I don’t think these need an explanation as to why they’re awesome and everyone must own them, even the guys. I have never seen anyone in Deadpool leggings, and feel that needs to change.

7. Deadpool Flair – There are not enough Deadpool pins in the world, and if you are one of the many who is yet to own one, make this the first in your collection because Mondo are pro’s at creating eye catching flair for your lapels, and this is no exception.

8. Adventure Time Watch – I knew I wanted this Adventure Time watch ever since seeing it on Deadpool’s wrist in the first movie, and now it’s actually available to buy – Just make sure no one else see’s it on your wrist, or your identity is blown, and Collosus will be after you.

9. Deadpool Pen Holder – Brutality is Deadpool’s game, and I’m not sure there’s anything more brutal than a severed head used as a push cushion for pens. Perfect for the desk of someone who needs a little help showing people who is boss.

10. Deadpool Tee – One for the pop culture mash-up fans out there – a Finding Nemo / Deadpool tshirt. Cute AND deadly, wearing this you might actually find yourself a Dory to help you with your quest – though we all know Deadpool works alone.

Whimsical Disney Bags by Danielle Nicole

With the release of a new live action Beauty and the Beast movie, and the announcement that even more classics will be getting the same treatment, adults everywhere are understandably falling in love with Disney all over again – myself included.

If you are one of those people, you need to stop what you’re doing and check out these stunning bags. Created by Danielle Nicole, in conjunction with Disney, the collection is inspired by the Princesses we all wished we could be at one point in our lives.

Inspired by the likes of The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and of course Beauty and the Beast, these quirky accessories are full of whimsy. Adorned with glitter and pompoms, and shaped like the characters they represent, they’re perfect for all the modern princesses out there.

My personal favourite is the Flounder crossbody because – cutest fish in the sea – but I’m equally in love with the Cogsworth, and I kind of want that Sleeping Beauty clutch as well – us nap loving ladies need to stick together.

Which bag is your favourite? Have you been loving the live action Disney Films so far? Which one are you most looking forward to seeing?

Gotta Catch Em All

I’ve been in love with Hard Times Clothing ever since stumbling across their online store. Their designs gave off a ‘tattoo’ vibe which, at the time, was quite original. One of their latest collection strays away from that style, and yet, is my favourite to date – why? Pokemon that’s why.

So the line isn’t actually labelled Pokemon, probably for legal reasons or something similar, but when you see it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Fire Dragon. Grass Lizard. Water Turtle. Yeah, we all know that’s code for Charizard, Venasaur and Blastoise. The designs are basically ‘what would Pokemon look like if they were real’ and the answer is ‘terrifying’.

Each shirt is £24.99 and range from size small to XXL. I’m a little in love with ‘Water Turtle’ more than any of the others because Squirtle was the one, and turtles in general are just awesome. Which one do you prefer?

My Little Pony Nylon

If you’re a fan of My Little Pony, you need to check out Poprageous’ new clothing line. The LA based company have just released a selection of leggings and crop tops dedicated to our favourite miniature horses; Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity and Futtershy.

As you can imagine, the collection contains every shade of pink, purple and peach imaginable, and each pony has their own confetti covered set, so if you have a favourite you can cover your body in them alone. The crop tops are $49 each and the leggings come in at $70. Sizes range from XXS to XL.

My favourites are Rainbow Dash because, well, rainbows, but I also like the green/red combination used for Applejack. Who’s your favourite pony? Which set do you prefer?

Firefly Collection

If the untimely demise of Joss Whedon’s firefly series was something that left a sour taste in your mouth for years and years to come, then you’re probably the kind of person who likes to get a Firefly fix however you can – in which case, check out Living Dead’s new collection. I promise it will keep you ticking over for a few days.

Featuring a selection of leggings, jerseys, and skater dresses, this diverse collection holds some of the greatest Firefly merch I’ve ever seen. Some of my favourite pieces include the Zoe and Mal skaters that look exactly like the outfits they wear on Serenity, and the Reaver and Blue Sun tops. There’s even a replica of one of Inara’s kimono’s, and a skater based on Kaylee’s cupcake dress.

The pieces range from $75 to $95, so not cheap, but I’m yet to see anything like this collection anywhere else. It’s amazing. So what do you guys think? Which item’s your favourite?

The Studio Ghibli Collection

If you’re a fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated movies, stop whatever it is you’re doing NOW and drool over this adorable Studio Ghibli collection created by  Wizards of the West. Their clothing line is currently comprised of a colourful selection of t-shirts, sweatshirts, and dress shirts, with the promise that more items will be added in the near future; leggings, swimsuits and hoodies.

The entire collection focuses on Miyazaki’s most iconic characters from films such as My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, and Valley of the Wind.  Sizes range from XXS to XL, and everything available so far is unisex, so don’t worry guys – you can rock that mint green Totoro shirt too. Swimsuits on the other hand – well, I won’t judge you.

Price wise, it’s all surprisingly affordable, ranging between £24 and £25. I’m personally a huge fan of their pullovers, I think they’d be perfect for the upcoming season, however if they were to introduce a dress or two in time for Summer next year, I’d totally be all over that.

So what do you think? Will you be adding a Totoro tshirt to your wardrobe? Or do you just hate everything fun and cute and want to die alone? – too much? Check out their full line here.

Poke Rangers

image

Creating a cosplay for a single character is pretty hard in its own right, so when I saw that a group of friends created a group cosplay combining Power Rangers and Pokemon, my mind was blown.

The quintet made their costumes for Otakon 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland. The helmets, which are by far the best bit, were made out of cardboard covered in Bondo auto body filler (whatever that is) and finished with a visor made out of a cola bottle. Their weapons were created from poster board, pvc pipe, and foam.

The team consists of Mega Garchomp, Mega Scizor, Mega Charizard X, Mega Rayquaza, and Magikarp. Magikarp is by far my favourite, purely because of the giant pink lips that surround the visor – he looks so derpy. You can find more photos of the group here.

So which one is your favourite? What other Pokemon do you think would look awesome as a Power Ranger?

Inside Out Everyday Cosplay

image

Pixar’s Inside Out was an instant hit with me. It was an easy film to connect with because all the characters were so relatable, plus it was so much fun to watch, but still managed to break you down – an emotional roller coaster if you will.

The film revolves around the life of11 year old Riley, but it’s the emotions in her head I want to take a closer look at. Disgust, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Joy are personified feelings that guide Riley through a big change in her life. Each character is obviously very unique, and I think you’ll be able to guess their characteristics from their names. I love that every emotion has been designed to reflect these characteristics, and I adore their little outfits, so have decided to create an everyday cosplay for each of them. Check out my interpretation of their outfits below if you fancy stealing their style.

image

Disgust’s Everyday Cosplay combines a Green Dress with a purple scarf and purple pumps. Her green skin led me to add a cardigan and satchel bag of the same shade. Her purple lips are one of her prominent features so I couldn’t resist adding this Mac lipstick in Lavender.

image

Sadness’ Everyday Cosplay cosists of blue jeans and a grey jumper. She wears slippers in the movie, so I added blue vans because they’re just as comfy. I also added some purple glasses. Sadness spends a lot of time under her own cloud of misery, so I accessorised her outfit with a raincloud necklace, but balanced that out with this blue bag because she has a heart of gold.

image

Fear’s Everyday Cosplay is made up of dark blue jeans, a blue and white pinstripe shirt, and a houndstooth jacket – ain’t nobody got time for a sweater vest. I added a raspberry hair bow and some pumps to colour coordinate. Finally, I pIcked this purple bag because it was the same shade as Fears skin.

image

Anger’s Everyday Cosplay combines a brown skirt with brown boots, and a cream shirt. He has red skin, so I also added a red jacket and a red bag. Because of his explosive personality, I finished the outfit off with a necklace full of flames, and some earrings that look like little balls of fire.

image

Joy’s Everyday Cosplay consists of a pale yellow dress, a blue cardigan, and some blue flats. Her happy personality led me to add this awesome smiley face bag and some blue flowered earings. Finally, I wanted to add a sunshine necklace to signify that she is the opposite of Sadness – who has a cloud – but that you don’t get one without the other (well, not in England anyway)

Personally, my favourite Everyday Cosplay is Disgust. It’s got a very fun rockerbilly vibe about it, though Sadness is probably more my style and one I would actually wear day to day. Which is your favourite? Could you see yourself wearing one of these outfits?
